Welcome to the next video in this series of overviews on Wood Mackenzie’s Lens Carbon. If you haven’t watched our Lens Carbon introduction or navigation video, we encourage you to do so first.

As you know, Lens Carbon is Wood Mackenzie’s complete solution that provides insights on carbon management methods that include CCUS and Carbon Offset. In this video we will be focusing on the carbon market research delivered through the Lens Carbon analytical platform and the written reports.

Lens Carbon Landing Page

Our qualitative analysis on the carbon market can be found on the Lens Carbon landing page on the portal. There are several key reports to highlight here:

  • Carbon Market Outlook quarterly reports that tracks key developments, including policy changes, price changes and evolving trends across the global compliance and voluntary carbon markets. To fully enjoy the content, please download the presentations and data file.

  • Carbon Pricing Regimes Factbook. This report provides an overview of regulatory settings for key compliance carbon pricing regimes and carbon market development around the world.

  • A series of insights on the carbon policy and regulation, along with the carbon offset framework trilogy.

Lens Carbon platform

For Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM), we can build our analyses by leveraging our Carbon Offset dataset in Lens Carbon. It helps to inform a better carbon management decision by providing a handy way of screening offsetting options. The dataset tracks carbon offsets projects, their emission reduction type, offsetting program, volume generation and retirement, carbon pricing, and eventually project cost and revenue information.

Partnering with Allied Offsets, we source the offset projects from international and independent registries across the world. There isn’t currently a single standard taxonomy for carbon offset assessment, but Lens Carbon has integrated the information into a single platform and created a classification system.

The four workflows section particular to Carbon Offset:

  • Asset section, we see information on the offset projects themselves and on the registries. Sometimes a project has been registered to more than one registry, so these two tables allow us to look at either the aggregated project data or by registry

  • Supply, this contains information about credits which have been issued by projects

  • Demand shows the credits which have been retired

  • Prices provides pricing data at various levels of granularity, including at the project level
