What is Insight Assistant?
Insight Assistant is an agentic chat interface that lets you interact with Wood Mackenzie's written reports using natural language. Instead of searching through reports manually, you can ask a question directly and Insight Assistant will read across the relevant research to generate an answer, complete with citations back to the original sources.
Asking a question
To get started, open the assistant by clicking the floating button at the bottom of the screen
Type your question into the chat box at the bottom of the Insight Assistant window and hit send. You can also use our templated prompts to help you get started.
Insight Assistant works best with specific, analysis-style questions rather than single keywords. For example, instead of asking "Middle East conflict", you might ask "How would a Middle East conflict impact European power markets?"
Insight Assistant will then generate a written response synthesised from across Wood Mackenzie's relevant reports, rather than pointing you to a single document.
Reviewing your answer and its sources
Every answer Insight Assistant generates is grounded in Wood Mackenzie research. Below each response, you'll see a sources button (for example, "4 sources") showing how many reports were used to generate that answer.
Select the sources button to expand the list and view the underlying reports the answer was drawn from. This allows you to trace any claim back to its original research and read further if you want more detail.
Note: Insight Assistant is AI-generated content and may be incorrect. Always use the sources provided to verify key figures or conclusions before relying on them.
Continuing the conversation
At the end of most responses, Insight Assistant suggests a set of follow-up prompts under "Not sure what's next? Try this:". These are tailored to the answer you just received and are designed to help you dig deeper without having to think of the next question yourself.
Select any suggested prompt to automatically send it, or type your own follow-up question if you'd prefer to steer the conversation in a different direction.
Accessing previous conversations
Individual conversations are saved so you can access them again and pick up where you left off. These are accessed via the hamburger menu on the top-left of the window and you can use the search box to find the conversation you're looking for.

What is Insight Assistant?

What does ‘agentic’ mean here?
Insight Assistant is able to act independently, working out what your question needs and pulling together the relevant material. It will retry if it needs to and decides how to present the answer in the context you gave it, rather than returning a fixed format every time. Ask a quick factual question and you get a quick answer. Ask something broader and it draws together relevant threads across our written analysis.
Do I need to change how I ask questions?
No. Ask in plain language, the way you would ask a colleague, or another AI system like Claude or CoPilot.
What it can access
What data can it leverage today?
The full library of WoodMac written reports (e.g. Commodity Market, Asset, Insight, Edge etc.).
Will the answers cite their sources?
Yes. Every answer is grounded in WoodMac written content, so you can trace it back to the reports behind it. Citations from attachments are marked.
Can the assistant answer questions on content I’m not subscribed to?
All expert analysis the Insight Assistant leverages takes into account each user’s subscription and so the Insight Assistant’s response will be limited to the reports you subscribe to. If you ask a question that matches content you are not subscribed to, the Insight Assistant will flag this to you.
