Depending on the energy source filter applied, the total figure in the asset summary will include all power plants that have at least one generating unit that runs on your selected energy source.
At a generating unit summary level, what you will see will be a total of the power plants that have your selected energy source as the primary energy source.
At a power plant summary level, in some cases, the facility may be split into multiple phases/units, and we try to display as much detailed information on these as possible - i.e. there may be multiple different fuel types used for different units, or some units may be operational, and others retired/yet to be commissioned.
As an example - One will see different sums of total installed Operating Onshore Wind capacity for the UK (and other countries) depending on whether they select the Power plant summary view or the Generating Unit view to download data from the table in the Assets page:
Usually the Power Plant summary extract will have a higher total MW than the Generating Unit extract. This is because the Power plant summary view includes hybrid power plants with a little wind turbine attached, for example a big hydro plant with a single wind turbine will have its capacity included in the Power Plant Summary view.
