Data Campus
A large facility that hosts typically three or more individual data center buildings, each of which may be developed and tracked separately. Attributes of a campus, such as MW and number of buildings, reflect the planned state of the facility at full build-out. A Campus record may be associated with zero, one or more Data Center records, each of while would represent a distinct phase in its development. In some cases, a campus developed prior to 2023 is listed in order to be associated with a new Data Center development.
Data Center
A facility consisting of a small number of buildings - typically one or two. It may be a standalone project or a phase of development of a Campus (in which case it will have a Campus ID). If a single such facility is developed in more than one phase of development, such as to increase the MW capacity, each phase will be captured by one Data Center record and all will have the same Project ID.
Data centers and data center campuses are captured separately. This enables tracking of the planned future state of a campus as well as its individual phases of development.
Data Center and Data Campus data can be found in the quarterly US data center pipeline reports and in Lens Power and Renewables
