What is the Upstream Service?

The Upstream service is our written analysis of commercial upstream oil and gas fields globally and country summaries.

Our Upstream Service provides in-depth analysis of countries and assets, plus insights from world-renowned experts on key developments including fiscal changes, licensing rounds and M&A activity, enabling you to identify and assess potential global upstream investment and expansion opportunities, and deliver winning growth strategies.

What does the Upstream Service cover?

The service covers country and asset level analysis of exploration, reserves, production, costs, fiscal terms, development, and transportation and potential upside, issues or risks

Some assets may be excluded from this service and the primary reason for exclusion of an asset is its lack of significance to the upstream industry. This may be due to the physical scope and scale of the asset, for example in terms of reserves, production or investment.

Alternatively, a country's oil and gas fields may be entirely owned and operated by the state, with no possibility of other oil companies being allowed to participate in their ownership and development - hence, there is usually little interest in detailed analyses of these assets.

Another reason for the exclusion of conventional assets is where there is insufficient data availability. If it is deemed that inadequate information exists on any particular asset(s), despite the best efforts of Wood Mackenzie's research analysts, then a detailed analysis will not be attempted, although this is a rare situation.

Geographical coverage available will vary depending on your subscription – please contact your account team for details
