🔎CO2 Capture dataset

Lens Carbon now contains a detailed look at capture technology granularity for the global CCS/CCUS projects within coverage. We can now explore the range of capture technologies deployed for various projects and gain insight of the technologies and vendors utilized. This new dataset is available under Asset Analysis > CO2 Capture menu in Dashboard.

🔎LCOCCS (Levelised Cost of CCS) workflow

Lens Carbon now has been enhanced with the addition of Levelised Cost of CCS (LCOCCS) curve. It allows us to benchmark costs of CCS projects across industries, countries, scope, and capacities.

Based on modelled hypothetical CCS projects, this generic LCOCCS curve gives perspective on cost ranges and how all the potential variations of emission sources, scale, locations, parasitic emissions, CCS project designs, and other factors impact cost.

It is available under Market Analysis on the Dashboard, and consists of three LCOCCS charts and a data grid for the underlying data. Each chart contains various configurations available via the Settings (cogwheel icon) option on the top left corner. We can choose from a variety of input parameters to affect the curve.

For further reading on the modelling methodology, please take a look at this insight: 2023 CCUS Cost Update: factors affecting levelised cost (LCOCCUS) to 2030 and beyond.

💰 CCUS project valuations

You can now run a single project CCUS valuation in Lens which can help you to understand complex and uncertain CCUS project economics and answer such questions as “How much will a CCUS project cost us and how can we minimise those costs".

There are 19 projects included in the first release so you might want to have a look at Moomba Phase 1 in Australia, Genesee in Canada or Rio Grande LNG in the United States. More projects will be added over the coming weeks.

🗺️ Saline aquifers map layer

The saline aquifer data is now available as a map layer in Lens CCUS. This layer can be toggled on or off using the map layer controls. You also have the ability to change the visualisation so that aquifers are coloured by the following attributes:

  • Best storage capacity

  • Period

  • Formation

  • Water depth

Interact with layer by clicking on an aquifer polygon to open a snapshot revealing key information such as aquifer name and storage capacity.

🔎 Storage License Data and Workflow section

License storage data is now available in Lens CCUS. Storage data is updated regularly and provides insight into historic license actiivty. The geospatial data can be viewed on the map as an interactive layer. Map layer visualisation makes it easy to view which licenses are active, on-offer, or under application.

The license storage data also has a new workflow section where you can analyze the data based on a variety of attributes such as award date, total area, and projects linked to the license block.

🔎 CCUS Transport Data and Annual Capacity charts

CCUs transport data has been added to Lens CCUS. The transport layer can be visualised on teh map or the anlysed through a new workflow section. The workflow section makes it easy to see which projects are linked to specific transports, total capacity, and the development status of transport projects.

CCUS projects' annual capacity can now be visualised in a chart. The new chart is found under the summary workflow section. Annual capacity can be displayed to show a variety of trends that will help you understand forecasted capacity, growth by region, and emissions sources contributing to these trends.

The data from the chart can be directly exported or the chart itself can be saved as a high resolution image.
